Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Fall 84 Am I crazy?

After spending many weeks in the East coast Fall 84 tour, I have come to the conclusion that there is AMAZING music being made regardless of Garcia's condition at this time. 10-8/9-84 are great shows for any era, full of creative jamming, and the band seems to be listening to one another. The Playin from 10-11 is downright scary and the best of the tour (I think). The 12th is great as we all know. Both Hartford shows have moments of pure bliss, where the energy makes up for any missteps.. And the final three shows are solid. I love the 18th even if the Playin is not as strong as others. There are great moments in Stranger(all versions kick ass on this tour), Big RR, and Dancin. The 17th and 18th shows culminate with the Carrier Dome which just screams with Jack Straw, Shakedown etc. Just wanted to get others opinions on this tour, and thank the archive for letting me spend some time in a lost period in GD history. Thanks!

Garcia was not in good shape in '84 but his playing was outstanding at times. July had the great Greeks & Ventura shows. The Garcia Band shows in August are some of his best ever and perhaps rival the peak of '81-'82. 10/20/84 was the best show of the fall tour and is every bit as good as 10/12. Someone here mentioned that this would make a great road trips; I'd be the first in line to buy. Are you listening Rino (Ryno?)

i am a sucker for 84 shows and the fall east coast tour is a big reason why. 10/12 has long been a fav of mine and the dome 10/20 is right there too. then they hit up the berkeley comm theatre with a great run of shows. 1984 is THE most underrated year IMO (w/ '93 a close 2nd!).

Ditto - some of the most fun I ever had was on the eastern seaboard during fall of 84. The oft maligned froggy Jerry dug a little deeper it seems....

Fall '84 was great for me, I did 2nd night in Me., both Hartford, and Syracuse.
Honestly though, I never really listen to any of those shows.I'll have to make a point of that.

I enjoy those shows but I have to agree that I never listen to them anymore except 10-12.

I saw the entire tour and it was great great fun.
